Teaching Degree Physics Secondary School 72 ECTS

Teaching Degree Physics Secondary School (Stex., 72 ECTS)

Career Goals and Fields of Activity

Career opportunities as a teacher

As many teachers will be retiring from teaching in the coming years, the need for physics teachers will continue to exist. The chances of being hired as a teacher are still very good for physics, especially in the subject combination with computer science and mathematics.

As part of the teacher training course with physics as the main subject, graduates can also obtain a Bachelor of Science, which opens up further professional fields for them.

Further career opportunities

Graduates of the teacher training course with physics as a teaching subject have a wide range of other employment opportunities in addition to the teaching profession, as they have acquired the ability to analyze and solve complex problems during their studies. This allows them to quickly familiarize themselves with less familiar topics. The additional skills they have acquired in passing on knowledge to others enable them to take up jobs in the field of science communication and/or consulting, particularly in combination with their specialist expertise.

Despite changing economic conditions, the opportunities on the job market for graduates with a degree in physics as a teaching subject are very good and have remained so for a long time.

Qualification Goals

After successfully completing the course, graduates have the following skills:

  • They have a broad, in-depth basic knowledge of the most important areas of physics and understand the fundamental relationships and working methods of physics.
  • They have the ability to recognize physical problems as well as well-developed stamina and the ability to work under pressure when dealing with physical problems.
  • They have knowledge of the mathematical and theoretical foundations of physics as well as the theoretical and experimental methods to acquire new knowledge.
  • They have the ability to evaluate physical and didactic methods and use them appropriately for teaching in secondary schools.
  • They are able to understand the scientific, well-founded concepts of physics behind school physics and to classify school physics in this context
  • They are able to present physical facts professionally using experiments they have set up themselves.
  • They are able to present their knowledge and findings to pupils in a subject-, pupil- and target-oriented manner.
  • Graduates have basic knowledge of digital working methods in physics and in teaching and can adapt these appropriately for teaching.
