Applications are invited for a W3 Professorship in
Computational Quantum Materials
at the Institute for Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics, Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, Julius Maximilians Universität Würzburg, Germany.
This is a permanent position. We expect applications from excellent and internationally renowned candidates who reinforce or complement the faculty’s research strength and the Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat in the field of “Computational Quantum Materials”. Possible research topics should focus on the theoretical description of complex quantum materials. Numerical methods such as ab-initio theory, methods of many-body physics, and machine learning can play an important role. We envision that the specific research area of the successful candidate enriches the faculty’s existing research program in terms of physics and methods. Furthermore, participation in the Würzburg-Dresden Center of Excellence "Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter" and in the SFB 1170 is explicitly welcome.
We ask the appointee (m/f/d) to lead, support and develop education and training within the field of Computational Quantum Materials engaging with undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants should have a track record of publishing in international peer-reviewed journals and demonstrated competence in defining research projects and attracting research funding.
Applicants should have a university degree in physics or a related discipline, university level teaching experience, and additional academic qualifications. The latter should be in the form of a PhD degree and Habilitation or evidence for an equivalent research track record.
The University of Würzburg is an equal opportunity and family-friendly employer. In order to increase the number of women in leading position, we specifically encourage female applicants.
Applicants must not be older than 52 at the time of their appointment (exceptions in special cases can be made according to Art. 10, para. 3, clause 2 Bayerisches Hochschulpersonalgesetz). Severely disabled applicants will be given preference in case of equal qualification.
Our preferred method of application is online. Please submit your complete application documents (CV, List of publications, list of lectures and courses taught, certified copies of certificates and degrees, list of third-party funding) using the following link:
