Now it is recognized that full information on electronic states including the spin in the full 3D Brillouin zone can be, in principle, clarified down to the sub- μm region by use of the so-called spin-resolved Momentum Microscope (MM) in the case of conductive materials. In the case of the insulators, however, such photoelectron spectroscopies can not be applicable because of the charging up effect. So photon-in photon–out spectroscopy such as the absorption/reflection as well as the photon emission is the feasible approach. Among them, core-level-tuned resonance inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) under the external perturbation fields such as magnetic field and electric field as well as uniaxial stressstrain will be promising approaches. Here are discussed RIXS under magnetic field by use of circularly polarized light excitation for α-Fe2O3 and Heusler Mn2VAl ferrimagnet. Finally, prospect of these approaches will be briefly discussed.
