Kikuchi patterns are formed by electrons which are emitted from internal sources inside crystals.
The beautiful geometry and interesting physics of Kikuchi pattern formation can be discussed
by adopting the perspective of an emitter atom in a crystal.
Kikuchi pattern formation can be simulated by a Bloch wave approach, which also highlights
the inseparable relationship between the concepts of electronic band structure and the mechanism
of electron diffraction in crystals.
A selection of applications in materials science and physics will be discussed, including Kikuchi Diffraction
in the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and in X-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD).
