"Spin Currents, Spin Torques, and Spin Caloritronics Experiments: A Technical Overview"
Datum: 15.12.2023, 10:00 - 11:00 Uhr
Kategorie: Kolloquium
Ort: Hubland Süd, Geb. P1 (Physik), Röntgen-HS
Veranstalter: SFB 1170 ToCoTronics
Vortragende: Dr. Helena Reichlova - Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences

This technical presentation provides an examination of the methods employed in our research, focusing on the study of spin currents, spin torques, and the challenges encountered in the field of spin caloritronics. I will begin by discussing the types of materials used in our investigations, highlighting their suitability and significance in our experiments. The fabrication of devices will be mentioned, offering an insight into the whole process. The central part of the talk will cover the mechanisms underlying the generation of spin currents and spin torques, emphasizing the fundamental principles that govern these phenomena. The latter part of the presentation will address the complexities inherent to spin caloritronics experiments, including the reasons for their increased difficulty. I will also cover the methods employed for generating and calibrating thermal gradients, essential for the measurement and analysis of heat-driven spin effects. Throughout the presentation, questions and discussions are encouraged.
