Matter and performance of the evaluations

The courses, elected modules and whole subjects are being evaluated regularly, respectively on occasions where appropriate, to secure quality in academic programmes and teaching.

Courses

• Evaluation of the courses is being done by the student representative committee
• A specific questionnaire is being used for the course evaluation with questions on how the curriculum is being taught by the lecturer, how many time is needed to prepare and to reinforce the courses, and how many time is needed to do the tutorials
• Within the first weeks of lecturing the lecturers get a first feedback which allows them to do some „finetuning“ during the current classes
• At the end of the lecturing period the lecture survey is being done online or with a questionnaire in the courses
• The evaluation is being done by the student representative committee together with the deans of studies
• the results are issued every semester in the "BlaBla-Operator" of the student representative committee
• The evaluation in summary is part of the annual teaching report that are presented to the subject committee and the faculty board
• The decision about the action that has to be taken is made in tight cooperation of the deans of studies with the subject committee

Modules

• The module evaluation is being done by the quality officer in cooperation with the deans of studies and the student representative committee
• For the module evaluation the data of the course evaluation is being adducted and a specific questionnaire is being used, when appropriate, with questions on the work load, on knowledge impartment and on examination techniques of single modules
• In addition, single evaluations of modules are being carried out, when appropriate, over numerous academic years
• The analysis is being done by the quality officer in cooperation with the deans of studies and the student representative committee
• The release of the results is done in at least annual students‘ general assemblies
• The evaluation in summary is part of the annual teaching report that are presented to the subject committee and the faculty board
• The decision about the action that has to be taken is made in tight cooperation of the deans of studies with the subject committee

Degree course / Subject

• The subject evaluation is being carried out after a period of not more than nine years by the quality officer in cooperation with the deans of studies and the student representative committee
• A specific questionnaire is being used for the subject evaluation with questions on e.g. the beginning of a course, the structure of the academic programme, offers for advise and mentoring, and on the organisation of examinations
• If necessary certain subjects can be evaluated in particular cases before the nine-years deadline
• The analysis is being done by the quality officer in cooperation with the deans of studies
• The release of the results is done in at least annual students‘ general assemblies
• The evaluation in summary is part of the annual teaching report that are presented to the subject committee and the faculty board
• The decision about the action that has to be taken is made in tight cooperation of the deans of studies with the subject committee

Other (university-wide) evaluations and surveys

• Survey at the beginning of a course / Summer School each summer semester (Faculty for Physics and Astronomy)
• Survey at the beginning of a course  / MINT-preparatory courses each winter semester  (Faculty for Physics and Astronomy and Faculty for Mathematics and Computer Science)
• Survey at the beginning of a course university-wide (all faculties)
• Lecturers‘ survey university-wide (all faculties)
• Graduates surveys university-wide (all faculties)
• etc.

State of the schedule for evaluations til 2020 and reporting

The current results are being discussed in sporadic meetings (or meeting when appropriate) of the deans of studies with the student representative committee and the lecturers as well as in regular meetings of the committee on (teaching and) the curriculum, the faculty board, the lecturers‘ assembly and of the student representative committee. Here it is also decided about the steps that have to be taken. The reporting is being done in the annual teaching reports and in a subject audit, where necessary.
