Domain Wall Movement

The movie on the left shows a time-lapsed series of STM topographic images taken on a IrTe₂ surface at a temperature of 180 K. The total real-time duration amounts to about 78 min. To highlight different (p×1)-ordered areas (with p = 3n + 2 with n being a natural number) the data have been color-enhanced. A domain boundary (DB) separates a (5×1) domain (right side of the movie) from a domain dominated by (8×1) modulations (left). A green circle marks a defect to provide a reference point.
