New article published in Nature Communications

Pleasant news - A new paper based on a collaboration between Adriana and Xiangjin has just been published in Nature Communications. The paper introduces a novel nuclear phase retrieval spectroscopy method. It addresses a challenge in spectroscopy, which is used to gather information about the molecular, atomic, or nuclear constituents of a sample. This information is carried in both the amplitude and phase contributions of the light. However, the phase information is typically lost when the light is detected through an intensity measurement.

In this new paper, Adriana and Xiangjin as corresponding authors and their team present a technique for reconstructing the lost phase information using time- and energy-resolved spectra. The method is applicable to x-ray scattering off Mössbauer nuclei at a synchrotron radiation source. This accurate approach promises to benefit both x-ray quantum optics and Mössbauer spectroscopy.
