Astrophysics in North Bavaria
North Bavarian Science Cluster for Astronomy and Astroparticle Physics
The Chair of Astronomy at JMUW collaborates in the fields science and teaching together with the Dr.-Remeis-Sternwarte in Bamberg and the Erlangen Center for Astroparticle Physics (ECAP) at the FAU Erlangen. Once per year the participants meet in the scope of the "FRANCI"-Meeting, to support the scientific exchange. The research topics addressed at these institutions are complementary to each other and benefit from the synergies raised by closely collaborating:
- Multi-wavelength astronomy (radio, optical, X-ray, gamma ray)
- Theoretical astrophysics and astroparticle physics
- Theoretical physics
- High-energy astroparticle physics with gamma rays and neutrinos
The cluster also involves the annual IBWS-Workshop in Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary) to foster bavarian-czech collaborations. The results of the Workshop IBWS2018 were published in the Sonderheft of Astronomische Nachrichten. The project is supported by the Bayerisch-Tschechische Hochschulagentur BTHA in Regensburg.
